Violin Atelier Schmidt is a professional repair shop for violins, violas, cellos and basses. We offer comprehensive service for string players as well as sales of instruments, bows and accessories.

Matthew Schmidt - Owner Bio
Matthew has a formal education in Violinmaking from the world renowned Mittenwald Violinmaking School in Bavaria, Germany. This 3.5 year full-time program included traditional training in building, varnishing, setting-up, repairing, identification and history of violin-family instruments. Matthew's patient, meticulous nature and artistic sensibilities complement this education, and his instruments have been praised by many experts. Upon graduating with his Journeyman's Certificate he accepted a position in the Toronto workshop of Geo. Heinl & Company Ltd. – Canada's oldest and most respected provider of stringed instruments, expertise and repair services. A talented expert in his field, Matthew strives to run his business with strong principles in mind: honesty, integrity, reliability and respect for others. He is happy to have returned to the city in which he grew up, and looks forward to the opportunity to help London Area string players and to be involved in supporting the arts community as a whole.
